Biography
Dr. Phuong Nguyen is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at UT Southwestern Medical Center who works as a pediatric hospitalist at Children’s Health Dallas. She graduated from LSU Health Sciences Center –Shreveport in 2006 and completed her internship and Pediatrics residency at Children’s Medical Center Dallas/UT Southwestern in 2009. She is board certified in Pediatric Hospital Medicine since 2019 as part of the inaugural class of this newly recognized subspecialty field.
Dr. Nguyen is dedicated to providing quality, family centered inpatient care. She is passionate about bedside teaching as a tool to optimize clinical education for medical students and various residents training in pediatrics, family medicine, psychiatry and anesthesia. She is Co-Lead of the Pediatric Hospital Medicine elective, an elective for 3rd year pediatric residents interested in pursuing PHM as a career path, by coordinating exposure to both community and academic hospitalist models, introducing to physician coding, billing and documentation standards, and providing opportunities to participate in research, quality improvement and education of other learners. Apart from her commitment to clinical care and education, Dr. Nguyen is currently the Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine Schedule Lead. She develops, maintains and analyzes physician scheduling for approximately 30 faculty members providing 24/7 coverage for over 100 patient beds in a busy tertiary hospital.
