Elena Ivleva, M.D., Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry’s Division of Translational Neuroscience Research in Schizophrenia at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She serves as the department’s Communities Foundation Chair in Psychiatry and Director of the Early Psychosis Clinical and Research Program. She specializes in the treatment of schizophrenia and related psychotic disorders.
Dr. Ivleva earned her medical degree and her doctoral degree in neuroscience at Voronezh State Medical Academy in Russia. She completed a residency in psychiatry at Voronezh State Medical Academy, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship conducting neurobiological research in schizophrenia at UT Southwestern, where she also performed a research-track residency in psychiatry.
Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Dr. Ivleva joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2012.
In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Ivleva is a dedicated physician-scientist in the field of neurobiological psychosis research. Her investigations are focused on understanding neurobiological mechanisms of schizophrenia and related disorders and developing human in vivo biomarkers for psychotic disorders, primarily using cognition and multimodal brain imaging measures.
Dr. Ivleva has delivered scores of presentations at national and international conferences, contributed to several psychiatry textbooks (including Kaplan & Sadock’s Comprehensive Textbook of Psychiatry and Neurobiology of Mental Illness), and published more than 50 academic articles. She is a recipient of research awards and funding from the National Institute of Mental Health, the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation, the American Psychiatric Association, and the Texas Health and Human Services Commission.
She is a member of the Society for Neuroscience, the Schizophrenia International Research Society, the American Psychiatric Association, the Early Intervention in Mental Health Society, and the Texas Society of Psychiatric Physicians, among other professional organizations.
