Biography
Julia R. Fielding, M.D., is Professor of Radiology at UT Southwestern, and serves as Chief of the Abdominal Imaging Division. Her clinical interests include conditions of the genitourinary tract, female pelvic floor anatomy, incontinence, and kidney cancer.

Dr. Fielding holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, with a minor in dance, from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. She earned her medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, and completed her residency training in radiology at Boston University School of Medicine. She then received advanced training in abdominal imaging through a fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and a fellowship in clinical effectiveness at Harvard School of Public Health.
Before joining the faculty at UT Southwestern in 2015, Dr. Fielding served as a Clinical Professor of Urology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, and as a Professor of Radiology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she also served as Director of the Abdominal Imaging Fellowship program.
Dr. Fielding focuses her research on computed tomography’s effects on therapeutic outcomes and survival in renal cell carcinoma. Her investigation has resulted in more than 80 papers, eight book chapters, and two books.
A commitment to service
Dr. Fielding also serves as a board member and committee member on several national and international societies. She is a Fellow of the American College of Radiology, and serves the organization as chair of the Committee for Women and as a member of the Medical Student Training in Radiology Task Force. She is also a member of the Radiological Society of North America, American Board of Radiology, American Roentgen Ray Society, Association of University Radiologists, Society of Uroradiology, and the Society of Computed Body Tomography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging. She is a Fellow of the American Association of Women Radiologists, and recipient of the organization's Marie Sklodowska-Curie Award. As a member of the Society of Abdominal Radiology, she serves on the International Education Committee and was the organization’s 2016 Richard H. Marshak International Lecturer.
A passion for dance and dogs
Dr. Fielding’s longtime interest in dance led her to cofound Boston Youth Moves, a nonprofit organization focused on teaching teenagers a variety of dance genres. She also enjoys printmaking, and pug dogs.
